End of Summer

The weather is still beautiful outside but the summer festivities are about over.  We made sure we did our annual white water rafting trip, did our last summer swim at my Mom's house, and went to the Connell Fall Festival annual parade.

I enjoy all seasons but summer might be my favorite.  I love the water.  I love the late nights and random last minute road trips.  So many memories are created during the summer months.  I also love the structure fall brings.  School starts and early bath and bedtime rituals begin and my days become scheduled with cleaning and mealtimes.  Fall football games start and so does good TV again.  My favorite candle scents fill the house and my sudden desire to bake comes back in full swing.

Annual White Water Rafting:
I wish I had a picture of the whole group.  We had three boats filled with Kelly's, Haertling's, and Bleazard's.  Even Daryl's Mom came this year!  The rapids were really mild this year but still fun.  My favorite part is swimming on this little outlet lagoon where there are natural water slides.  It is a bummer I can never catch all the action with a camera but in a way its more fun to just enjoy it all instead of being caught up in taking pictures.
These boys soaked us with those water launchers!
me and Ashley--she is back at BYU-I now

This is the last rapid we went down!  Just kidding this is a completely different river that flows into the Deschuttes river that we raft down.  Gotch ya though!
After the rafting trip--stopping to see the waterfall
Boys will be boys...there was some kind of bet/dare involved

While we were rafting on Saturday Grandpa and Grandma Harvey took Evelyn and Jane to the fair!  Sounds like both parties had a blast.  My Mom kept mentioning how good Jane did but once I heard about all the goodies they got while walking around it made since!:)  Here is a picture my Mom texted me of Evelyn riding a pony...

Last summer swim at my Mom's pool:
I always try to make an effort to go swimming one more time after Labor day.  After that it still feels warm enough to go swimming but the cooler nights makes the water too cold.

Connell Fall Festival:
One of the better parades I have been to in the area.  It actually has real parade floats!

The night before Ashley left we took Debbie and her out to dinner.  After dinner Daryl wanted to take the girls to run down Carmichael hill to get some energy out.  While we were at the top Debbie realized it made for some great silhouette snapshots...

Farewell summer!  You sure have been good to us.

The First Day

It just so happens that Evelyn is going to the same elementary school that I attended!
Here is me and Evelyn on the same sign just 20 years apart...

oh nostalgia can be so fun.  There are even a few teachers and duties still at the school from when I was there and the same sweet office secretary.  Here are Evelyn's first day snapshots...

She had a great first day and says Kindergarten is way more fun than preschool!  When she got home her Dad soaked her with the hose...

Lets get a "before" and "after" shot of those beautiful school clothes turned wet...

What would we do without Dad's?  Daryl is definitely the "fun" parent:)

Our newest addition...a Chameleon!

Well...I guess we are reptile people!?  or just plain missing taking care of our farm animals.  We went to the pet store on Saturday to find something to fill our reptile tank.  When we lived in Selah there was always a new creature coming along that got held for a while in the tank.  Now that we are city folk once again we had to go searching!  I am in love with this little guy who still remains nameless since we are still searching for the perfect name with the right coolness factor.  Some thoughts have been  Captain Charles or Charlie but I am not quite sold yet.  He is a Chameleon and changes colors.

Below you can see him starting to turn brown because of the stick...
Here is his habitat...can you find him?  Maybe we should call him Waldo!?  I think we found a name!

he gets lots of company
